Nothing is more important to me than my students' personal goals and having a discussion on how we can achieve those goals. I always want to make sure my students are moving forward in their creative process, so I like to check in with them at each lesson to discuss their progress. It's definitely important to me that my students practice on their own (especially if we're having lessons once/week.) I like to have my students record themselves (using the voice memo feature on their phone or, if possible, another recording device) so they can listen back to their lessons and practice between lessons. I have performed at the Lancaster Roots & Blues Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festivals, and my true passion is to play and share my love for music with as many people as I can. I truly believe that we all have music within. Everyone has different leanings and passions, and I see my greatest strength as helping students to discover their own personal connection to music. Whether you are looking to improve your classical technique, learn fiddle tunes, learn chords on the guitar, find your voice as a songwriter, or explore singing and vocal techniques, I hope I can be a supportive part of your journey! My teaching experience dates back to when I was 16 years old and started teaching students from the church that I played piano at. I've been teaching full time since I was 25 years old, and I love teaching. I believe students progress faster when they are learning to play their favorite songs, and are having fun with learning to play the piano. I also encourage students to learn to improvise and compose their own music by teaching them composition, harmony, rhythm, and practicing to backing tracks. Read More

I love piano! I am finishing a second Master's degree in Piano Performance at Austin Peay State University (anticipated graduation - December 2015). I completed a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree in music composition/piano/musicology in 2001 and am active as a composer/arranger in the Nashville area. I also hold a Master's degree in music ministry and have served as minister of music and minister of music and youth in churches in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana. Read More

Iam a spirited and passionate instructor who loves all things music. I studied Vocal music at Fisk University. I have performed with artists from many different genres, including Kid Rock and Mandisa Hundley. I have been blessed with the opportunity to perfom all over the country as well as internationally. I believe that music is the greatest language and that everyone should learn to speak it. I was born with music inside me. Read More

My method of teaching involves a musically comprehensive approach. Through practice in rhythm, harmony, melody, theory and ear training, my players become well rounded musicians. The goal is to be able to have an intelligent musical conversation with your instrument, and to know how to play whatever you want to play. In my lessons reading sheet music is optional, but not required. I want my students to know that there is more to playing than just what's in the ink. Read More

As a piano instructor I like to work beginers through a few books that have both a visual and comprehensive element which accomodates various learning styles. I continue with intermediate students teaching them scales, arpeggios, chords, jazz/pop harmony (if they wish to persue that), sonatinas (if they wish to persue that route as well), and other repertoire that they want to learn. From there we focus on the style and genre the student gets more enjoyment playing in. Read More
