Instruments: Piano Flute
I typically structure my lessons based on each individual student and their level of commitment. Some of my students want to go to college for music performance, and others just want to sound better in their school's band. I take that into account when choosing particular warmups and repertoire. I always begin my lessons with a few duets with my students. This helps strengthen the student's sight reading skills and it also gives them a chance to hear me play. Read More

Students under my instruction get a grasp of more than the usual elements taught in a music lesson. I push my students to the next level. There's so much more to it than memorizing the piece and being able to play or sing it on a technical level. I want my students to be conscious of how to behave on stage, what it means to perform and not just sing the song, how to connect with their audience with eye contact, and how to deliver music while not losing sight of their breathing, diaphragm, and control. I guide my instruction in order to keep my lessons, fun, engaging, and valuable to my students, and I customize each lesson to their interests and needs. Typically, I teach piano along with an area of emphasis, whether it be composition, improvisation, production, or songwriting. I believe that learning piano is best paired with a well rounded musical education. For beginning students who are children, I emphasize reading music and an understanding of music theory. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to my high school days. After I learned how to play guitar and played in a few bands, I knew that persuading a career in music was my passion. I taught a few students at my home and after high school attended Southern Union where I graduated with an associate in arts degree. In 1976 I graduated from Auburn University with a BS in Music Education. Read More

I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less. It is important to me that my students gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to continue making music after lessons with me end. I want to make sure that they develop a strong foundation for music understanding and are able to apply it to their chosen instrument. Read More

I pride myself on catering to each individuals need and desire. I do give every student the same basic foundation, but after the foundation is set, the continued direction is entirely up to the student [parent]. In previous years, I've had students who wanted to be the next Beyonce, some who need better technique, and some who just wanted to build upon what they already had. Whatever the student's desire, it's my job, and my pleasure to see that it comes to fruition. Read More
