I try to encourage everyone to learn how to read music, but certain students prefer to learn pieces quicker, in which case I can speed up the process by telling them the notes to play. In my performance program I really grew as a vocalist and learned how to overcome my own obstacles and improve my vocal technique for myself. For children I tend to start with posture, positioning of the hands, rounded fingers and finger notation. I understand that Molineux's teaching methods are of the 19th centurybut they are still relevant today in how we perceive music.
