With 15 years of performance experience, I have sang with the Richmond Symphony Chorus, the Tulsa Chorale led by Dr. Tim Sharp, the TU Cappella Chamber Singers and TU Chorale led by Dr. Kim Childs, and the Chancel Choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa led by Ron Pearson. Assessment is the task during the first lesson. I must determine the student's voice type, and what style of music the student would like to pursue. If a boy's voice hasn't yet changed, I'll assess whether he is an alto or soprano. I'm a keen believer in teaching one to sightread and encouraging one to improvise with his/her instrument! I can teach classical music and technicality, to jazz songs and improvisation, to songwriting and pop/folk oriented style of playing. Therefore, great emphasis is placed on learning to breathe and support your sound correctly as well as maintain good posture, rid your body of unwanted tensions, etc.; musical styles beyond that basic technique change only in small stylistic ways, and I am knowledgeable in quite a variety of most musical styles.
