I taught high school choral music for over 20 years in Southern California.  I have been teaching private piano for the last 15 years, the past 4 years in my piano studio and prior to that, 10 years with the Frisco School of Music in Frisco TX.  I am a member of Music Teachers National Associaton, Texas Music Teachers Assocation, and locally, the Denton Music Teachers Association. Piano: I enjoy the Alfred books as they explore the fundamentals of piano playing and provide tips for good habits. After having a good foundation for the fundamentals, I will move on to the Hanon book which explores technical exercises, scales, and arpeggios. Students will learn repertoire that will range from contemporary genres to classical genres. Organ: A piano background would be preferred. I like to start with the Davidson book and use Gleason for mastering the pedals. Read More

I served as Band Leader (lead musician) at Destiny Metropolitan Worship Church, a 6,000 member congregation, in Atlanta for 6 years. My duties during that time included leading, teaching, and shepherding a 7 piece band through baptism, communion, regular services, funerals, weddings, early morning prayer, weekly rehearsals, special rehearsals, etc. My duties during the holiday season(s) inclusive of Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter also included providing musical accompaniment for plays, special selections, and more. When starting off with students who are either children or complete beginners, I like to begin with Hal Leonard's All-In-One lessons book, while also incorporating individual sheet music to accentuate what the books are trying to teach. With adults, I take a quicker paced method by first establishing what direction in music they would like to go in, then introducing well-known songs of that genre into their repertoire. Both lessons groups will mainly start with a classical background to learn and reinforce proper techniques, and are then given the opportunity to branch off into any genre that entices them. My teaching experience spans 6 years. I've taught all ages, so I'm comfortable with everybodys learning pace. In college I studied under the Latin Grammy award winning La Catrina Quartet, and I hope to pass down the knowledge I gain from that experience to my students. With my students, I take them step by step through were they are as a musician, to were they need to be.
