Depending on my student's age and skill level I usually have them begin with Suzuki books, Essential Elements books, or a combination of the two. As students advance I often incorporate etudes and/or exercises by Lee, Dotzauer, Galamian, Mooney, Sevcik, Duport, and Popper. While ear training is an essential skill that I teach to all of my students, the younger a student is the more I'll have them "play by ear" instead of reading sheet music. Read More

For beginning students I have a number of books, resources and methods that I utilize in order to keep the lesson engaging and enjoyable. For more advanced students, I typically have a lesson plan or a direction that I want to go after assessing strengths and weaknesses. I also encourage students to take ownership of the musical skills learned by experimenting with composition and improvisation. Read More

Mock auditions and constructive feedback are integral parts of this process. Creativity and Songwriting: I encourage students to be creative by composing their own songs or arranging existing pieces. This not only enhances their musicality but also fosters a deeper connection to their voice and artistic expression. Technology Integration: I use recording technology and audiovisual aids to help students analyze their performances objectively. This allows for more precise feedback and self-assessment, aiding in continuous improvement. Read More

I also had the distinct privilege of being selected by mayor Betsy Price to serve as a musical delegate in the Sister Cities signing agreement between Fort Worth and Guiyang, China. Read More
