I am a classically-trained musician who loves all styles of music. My earliest memory of myself is age 2, dancing and conducting up a storm to The Nutcracker on TV. I would also put on all sorts of records (favorites include Mozart Horn Concerto and Dvorak Symphonies) and conduct along by myself. Roxanne is a singer-songwriter based in Richmond, Virginia. She earned her Bachelor of Music degrees in both Vocal Performance and Music Education from Longwood University in 2017. She has experience singing and performing many styles of music, including musical theatre, classical "opera", jazz, folk, and pop. She also considers herself a singer-songwriter and often performs at local venues in Washington, D.C. as well as at weddings. In addition to voice, Roxanne also plays guitar, piano, ukulele and bass. For beginning students who are children, I typically Start with Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber. Once student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for the recital performance. For adults, if student is beginner, I usually start with Alfreds Adult Beginner book. When I work with children, however, I focus primarily on ear training and music theory, knowing that those skills will help them out so much more as adult musicians than prematurely trying to learn advanced techniques. In voices lessons with children, I limit my technique-talk to breathing and vowels.
