My teaching experience dates back to 1996, when I began teaching lessons to children in at-risk communities in dance and music, while going through school in Oakland. I then continued in Stockton, CA, where I developed music and dance programs in the Recreation Centers, and later developed my own non-profit organization. I began teaching private piano lessons in the fall of 2015. I have taught both adults and children, and have found the experience very rewarding, especially with adult learners. I got my own start in music very late, and was actively discouraged in my youth from pursuing it--so one of my main goals as an educator is to motivate students and encourage them that they can still be performers. I travel to all of my students houses and have a very flexible schedule. It helps with minimizing the time of the parents/ students travel and bringing the lesson into the comfort of their own home. I check with each student what they are really trying to get out of their lessons and which direction they want to go. Nothing is more rewarding then seeing my student progress and overcome the difficulties of starting to play an instrument. Furthermore, it is very important that each one of my students progresses at their own pace. That being said, I encourage progression by setting realistic goals depending on the student's level.
