I expect the student to practice and learn for him or her self. I am there to facilitate. I am there to help. I am there to be the teacher and to encourage. I give each student the freedom to learn and prove to themselves just how wonderful they can be. I sit down with each student and parent, if the parent is coming with them, in the beginning and discuss with them the importance of practice and what it does to help with the learning process. I have been teaching for almost 10 years, in Philadelphia schools such as Olney High School, Nueva Esperanza, AMLA Latin School for The Performing Arts, Taller Puertorriqueo, and Philly Music Lessons. I have been consistently teaching students in my home studio within the last 6 years. As music composition and music production are rapidly changing with the rise of technology, I also teach music composition with technology in mind. As students are able to learn and play keyboard and piano, they will also learn how to make their own music using music beat-making software such as Ableton Live, Reason, ProTools, and other DAWs. I make the student the focus of the lesson. I give them my complete attention. When I explain something which is new to the student I always try to have several ways to explain it. I try to keep the lessons feeling upbeat so the student can enjoy them. I do make it clear that practice is needed in order to become accomplished. It is no different from homework that they get from school. Read More

Great music lessons are a mix of solid technique building and fun application of those skills. I always spend the first few lessons getting the student familiar with the basic technique of the instrument, and then quickly move on to duets, improvising, sight reading, solos, etc. that tie in with the current technique studies. Music can also be heard or read, so I try to strike a balance between reading music/theory and learning/improvising by ear. Read More
