My passion for teaching began in my Junior year of high school in 2011-2012, when I spent 6 months teaching guitar lessons to elementary school students at a local YMCA after-school program. With a class size of approximately 10-15 students, I learned many valuable teaching methods for students of all backgrounds and learning methods. For young students starting piano lessons for the first time, I recommend either Bastien or Faber's piano Adventure method books. My older students love Alfred's books. These method books, in my opinion, have motivating pieces and give the students a solid foundation in theory and scales. I also use supplementary materials such as Dozen a Day, Czerny, Kabalevskiy. I have been teaching piano since 2005 and been very active in Greater Boston area since 2014. I've had students aged from 4 to mid-50. I also worked as a tutor at Berklee College of Music during my study. Dicipline may be the most important thing to emphasize in the very beginning stage of learning. But I see learning piano more as a creative process, encouraging students to have a personal connection with the instrument by introducing songs they know, helping them to write simple songs and so on.
