I continued teaching private lessons, while also conducting a high school youth choir in Chicagoland after moving to IL. After a few years my family and I moved to the greater Cincinnati area where I currently teach as a high school choral and drama teacher while serving as the theatre manager as well. I strongly encourage my students to learn to communicate with their music; while building strong technique and working on artistic expression, I want each student to be able to use music as a language. Coming back to goal setting, each student will want something a little different out of it from the next. So I find it helpful to ask and figure out; if there's a specific song they wish to learn, what some of their favorite artists are so we may get a grasp what style they are into, or just want to learn about music in general so that one day they may be able to create their own original work. I began teaching people how to play instruments when I was in high school, by teaching new students to the band how to play percussion. I then continued teaching once in college by volunteering at local high schools helping new students to the band programs learn brass and percussion. From there I worked with the Rich South high school band director and the Jack Hille middle school band directors. Once I graduated college I taught choir and instrumental music for the catholic school system for two years. Read More

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The hardest thing to master on my instrument is speed. When you obtain the speed that you want to obtain and want to apply it in many different songs it makes a big difference. Speed playing makes a difference in beat, soloing, and memorizing different songs. That is what it is hard to master. It is something that you would acquire throughout time and just throughout practice. Another thing that is hard to master is to learn step by step on what exactly you want to play. IT is hard for beginners and when i was a beginner I did not know until I practiced and practiced. I eventually got use to my instrument.

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I do use a specific teaching methods and that is through listening, utube tutorials and through music theory. I choose ear training since ear training is a fabulous ability that most people want to acquire. It is an easy ability that I have. I taught a lot of people about ear training and that it's benefits about ear training. One of the reasons is that you as a musician would have better performance and better accuracy. I choose utube since a lot of people have the ability to learn visually. By watching you have a better picture of what exactly you want to play. Finally, I choice music theory since that's where all the principals of music is at. You get to learn a lot about music theory and get to also teach about what you learned.

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
A normal practice for me is preparing every instrument I have at my control and hanging out with friends or students. Helping them choose the structure of their song and where they want to take their own song. Preparing the sound, equipment, and lights. Every practice session should have a light and music sheets hanging on their wall. Many artists that inspire them and guitars, pianos, many books about music. It has to be sound prove and their should be total silence when entering the room. In the end you are the one that gets to manage how you would want to manage your own practice session.

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
If I had a degree it would be on Music teacher. Ever since I was a kid i always had the desire and passion to teach music to anyone one at any age. My biggest dream was to become a music teacher and to teach music of my own knowledge and my own understanding of music. I started realizing that through out time i wanted this job since it was a job that I would stick with it for the rest of my life knowing that I impacted many children and teenager's lives throughout my music and my music lessons.
