Instruments: Piano Saxophone

My teaching method is to provide exercises, pieces, and etudes that are at an appropriate level for the student. I listen to my students play, and I comment on good aspects and any problems. During each lesson, I will explain how performance problems can be corrected. This will ensure that the student will develop good fundamentals for musical performance. The fundamentals that I teach are tone, time, rhythm, articulation, vibrato, finger technique, music reading, and basic music theory. Read More

I love helping my students find their paths on their instruments and in music. Through finding their paths and following their inspiration I impart proper music techniques and ideals. I hold a Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelors Degree from Berklee College of Music. I'm an active performer and have performed with groups on Captiol and Warner Brothers Records. I have performed extensively throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe. Read More

I believe that every performer not only has the responsibility to execute challenging repertoire for the benefit of the listeners but in the same way we as students were inspired and instructed then it is only right to give back and pour into others lives the way we have been instructed too and poured into. I graduated from Nyack College School of Music with my Bachelors in Flute Performance and a minor in Vocal Performance. Read More

I always want to help my students understand the basics of music and universal principles that can apply to any music they are interested in learning. Whether it's jazz, pop, classical, blues, most styles of music share these principles in common and are best played when the musician can understand the underlying structures. Rather than having students memorize one piece that they'll forget as soon as they move onto the next, I want my students to have the skills to play any music they like any time by helping them develop their ear. For younger students, I find that book based methods are very helpful, and typically I go through the Hal Leonard Essential Elements Series. Once the student has a firm handle of the basics of saxophone (fingerings, embouchure, dynamics, etc.) then I start having them read etude books, and prepare pieces for recitals and other performances or auditions. For adults, I like to teach based on a goal oriented program. For example, If I have a student who is only interested in learning the saxophone for the sake of playing "Yakety Sax" or "The Pink Panther Theme", then I will tailor the lesson plan towards learning that while still working on the fundamentals of Saxophone along the way. I like to focus on giving the student a strong foundation and helping to foster creativity and a lifelong love for music. This means a lot of focus on technique and understanding musical principles as well as exploring different types of music and pushing creative boundaries! Read More

I encourage practice, whether it's one hour a day, 5 minutes a day or somewhere in between, but I understand that contemporary students (especially in New York City) have many obligations in terms of academic and extracurricular activities. It is in knowing this, my first goal is to make the lesson fun and relaxed and never a chore or a source of pressure or anxiety for students or parents. The lesson should be a fun and safe place to learn about and to play music! Read More
