All of my students follow more or less a similar path that deviates a bit once they have developed some. No matter the age I start all students off with building fundamentals of tone, flexibility, articulation, and range. I use a combination of exercises from David Vining, UNC's own Buddy Baker, and Emory Remington. While building fundamental playing skills I will have students begin playing etudes. There are core elements to my teaching that are constantly enforced, including my level of importance placed on rhythm and the aural tradition of music.
