Students regularly give feedback on the music they are making, as well as any new ways they think I might be helpful to them. I am a middle school band director that has over 20 years experience. I love sharing my love of music. I graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Education. I also have a Masters of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Instrumental/Choral Education. We will also do a number of fundamental exercises so I can get a feel for where the student currently is. For students of all ages, I aim to use the William Adam method while teaching. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun no matter their ability level. If the students need help working on a particular work for their school (ex solo ensemble, college audition, drum corps audition, concert band works, jury auditions, etc.) I am willing to help the students be successful.
