In general and for any subject or instrument that I teach It is very important since the beginning to make an evaluation of skills and that provide me the way to do a individual learning project. Evaluation use to be continuously and in every class I take note about contents, progress and observations. My program pretends in every cases to form a professional musician although if students just want to strengthen any technical or musical aspect, learn an specific music style or musical work there will be accepted as well. I believe in learning the fundamentals but I believe that experience should be enjoyable. That's why we "play" music in the first place! This can mean different things to different students but a focus on positive reinforcement and encouragement toward specific musical goals will always be the guiding factor in my approach. I also encourage students to take ownership of the musical skills learned by experimenting with composition and improvisation. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
With consistent practice on both fundamentals and repertoire, I believe that anybody can learn how to play an instrument. Learning an instrument is like building your dream house. You start start by building a strong foundation through fundamentals and then by working over a period of time, your dream house will start to become a reality. My goal as a teacher is to help each of my students understand what they need to do to practice on their own in order to see improvement over time. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Euphonium French Horn
For beginner students, I often use the Essential Elements series, or a similar book. Work on fundamentals should be regular. Some of the books I like to use for this are: Clarke, Schlossberg, Bai Lin, Irons, Stamp, and more. Solos and etude books are important to work out of as well. Early etude books include Getchell and Small, and later etude books include Bousquet, Longinotti, Brandt, and Charlier. The Arban's book is also something trumpeters and brass players should be familiar with. Read More

Since most of the students I teach are members of a band program, I make sure that most of my lessons are based on what is being learned at school. Planning an individual practice schedule is imperative for their success but at the same time make it enjoyable so the student will want to practice. Constant acknowledgement of their progress each lesson the student more eager to learn. Even though the school program may require students to learn from specific material, I also tailor instruction to music they enjoy performing. Read More
