In college, I took pedagogy classes where I had the opportunity to teach students through the Boston Youth Symphony Intensive Community Program. In June 2022, I earned my Teacher Training certification through the Suzuki Association of the Americas, which makes me qualified to teach the Suzuki Method. Teaching for me means to be constantly creative and flexible about gauging expectations and output, adjusting methods according to the students' ability to respond, and discovering new paths that are often dictated by the students themselves. I try to remain open-minded about the ways that musical goals can be achieved, rather than getting locked up in a routine that might have been successful before. When i teach a student who is just starting on a string instrument and has never played before i usually start them with the Suzuki books and cds. I find having a cd or recording to listen to and play along with is a great help. Other books i use with beginners in addition to the Suzuki books that have recordings too are Solos For Young Violinists, solos for young violists, and Fiddle Sessions by Charlie Hall, and Bela Bartok's 44 violin duets.
