I've been teaching privately for about 15 years, starting when I was a student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Since that time, I've taught students on Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet at all levels, from beginners all the way to advanced players in high school. My focus as an undergraduate was in jazz performance, and I love to teach about jazz techniques, beginning to advanced improvisation, and group dynamics. However, I feel that a strong classical foundation is important as well, and emphasize reading and technical studies to make sure my students are as proficient as possible on their instrument. I have been teaching since age 15 (1999). In addition to extensive performing experience on clarinet, I have functioned as a piano accompanist, choir member, and praise band member through the years. As noted above, I teach clarinet, saxophone, flute, and piano. My methods vary according to each individual students' needs and goals, however I try to find the approach that will best help a student to appreciate music in general, sharpen the mind, and give each student a level of skill on their instrument that provides a sense of accomplishment. I started my musical journey when I learned the banjolele in kindergarten. I switched over to piano soon after and took lessons for a couple of years. My Mom played the piano when she was growing up and always wanted to be in the band. My Dad was in band when he was a kid. He even played in The University of Texas Band when he went there. We had a pretty good band program here in Hurst and I joined In 7th grade (the earliest one could join). Read More

For my beginning students who are children, I typically start with Standard Of Excellence. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I also include ear training by having my students play note/ notes after me in a Call and Response maner. Read More

I love teaching woodwind lessons. My goal is to improve my students technical skills, improve their musicianship skills, and make them better humans. I have taught woodwind lessons to middle schoolers and high schoolers. Several of my students have made honor bands, placed first chair, and advanced to All-State. I have been principal chair of the OU Wind Symphony, OU Symphony Orchestra, OkMEA Intercollegiate Honor Band, and the Cimarron Opera Company. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
No matter what age, any starting clarinetist needs to understand the fundamentals of the clarinet. Once these fundamentals are acquired, we move on to the basics of reading music and playing the clarinet such as learning the circle of fourths and practicing pieces of music that is from a certain major scale. Ear training and music theory will also be involved in each lesson to understand music further. Each lesson is fun filled and packed with many activities to motivate my students to love music and have a passion for playing the clarinet. Read More

Understanding the student's interest would be my priority goal. Helping students not just playing the instrument, but also loving it, so they will cherish the time with their instruments. Having fun while learning music is always my target in teaching music. Students and parents are welcome to provide the music they would love to learn. That should keep their attention in having fun. At the same time, other-focused material would be assigned, so the students will maintain a great foundation in playing music. Read More
