Radio broadcasts include Ozark Public Radio KSMU, Kansas Public Radio KANU, and Tulsa Public Radio KWTU. In 2008, I won the Oral Roberts University 20th Century Music Competition with Joan Tower's Platinum Spirals. Winning that competition sparked my interest in discovering and performing New Music. I really enjoy providing students with positive feedback and reinforcement to cultivate a nurturing environment to foster musical growth in a positive way. I like to listen to what the student is giving to the music, teach them positively what should be reinforced, and what should be understood in a technical aspects of playing to understand why certain things work and why other things do not. Her viola teachers have been Dr. Steven Kruse, concert virtuosos Paul Coletti and Scott Lee, and composer Robert Hagenbuch. At the Conservatory she pursued the violin and took lessons from Paul Hatton of the Kansas City Symphony. Karla also received her Music Educators license in Instrumental Music from William Jewell College in 2005. Instrumental Conducting, Secondary Music Methods, Instrumental Techniques, and Educational Psychology were some of the courses that prepared her to become a more knowledgeable teacher. Read More
