Back when I was in Venezuela, I was playing in my city's orchestra the entire time from 2002 to 2018. In that orchestra, which is a part of the renowned "El Sistema". El Sistema is a system that helps underserved communities get the music knowledge they would otherwise not be able to get. We had different levels of orchestras, from beginners to advanced. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and knowing the strength behind private lessons as opposed to group lessons only. For children, I will continue through the method book series while supplementing it with short popular pieces that may be of interest to the student. My love of music grew as a child having a family supportive of music education. I see the participation in playing musical instruments as much of a fun activity as it is a physical and mental workout. After receiving my Associate in Science in Music I went straight into a studio and started teaching a range of students from 4 - 24 years old, and from the never-picked-up-an-instrument-before to I-can't-wait-for-the-competition levels. For adults, I would still use Essential Elements because it does help with reading music, basic violin technique, bow hold, etc. Suzuki is a must because Suzuki is the best! I learned all of the books, and Suzuki's learning methods helps so much! As time progresses, solo repertoire will be introduced and the student will begin learning from Wohlfahrt etude book. I teach both the Classical and Suzuki methods. I have students of all ages so it varies which student is learning which method. The best for children is the Suzuki method that is widely used in the USA. Classical methods can be used when I teach young adults and adults. It is pretty flexible though and I sometimes teach younger children the classical method. I like challenges and I often have children and older students that express different tempers. Read More
