I instantly found a love for the challenge of teaching, and the joy when a student experiences success. Before anything, I find out what the goal of the lesson is. I always want to know what the students want, so I can plan around them. The lesson will always be about the student! After discussing the goal of the lesson, we will find repertoire, etudes, or other materials that either benefit the student technically, or will simply be enjoyable to the student. Since the goal of the student can either be anything, including playing professional recitals, or simply playing a Taylor Swift song from the radio, my priority will be that the student is enjoying their craft. The most important over-arching philosophy in ALL of my teaching, is INDIVIDUAL CURRICULUM. Every student is a unique human being, bringing unique perspective, experiences, talents, and flaws. I adjust all curriculum based on the needs of their students, in order to play up their strengths and address their flaws. I have held concertmaster and associate concertmaster positions in my youth orchestras, as well as my orchestra at New York University. In doing so I have been able to use my experiences to lead others with patience and confidence. Among those I privately tutor, I was able to teach a diverse population of students, including students with special needs. I feel very rewarded seeing my students develop a passion for music! I try to teach each student at his or her own pase. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I then received my Masters of Arts in Music Education along with New York state certification for grades Pre-K through 12th grade. The year I graduated with my masters I was hired to work for the New York city Department of Education teaching general music and Band to grades Pre-K through eighth grade.
