For beginner piano students I use Alfred's books, which has different beginner levels for different ages. At first I perform my first lesson, where I decide which beginner book will much with the student, then I recommend an appropriate book for them. I also don't mind at all another company of books if they prefer so. For beginner violin students I recommend String builder or Essential elements books. They both are good skill building books. I use different book series, depending on the age and level of the student. For young students, I start with the little Mozarts book series, lesson books, and workbooks. For older students, I will either use Bastien or Alfreds lesson and workbooks. This is mixed with a classical and folk book. We also work on theory, and making sure we know our intervals. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I have brought many students from complete beginners all the way up to concierto level playing. My style is closer to the Russian style than to the American style. This tends to involve more discipline, an emphasis on focus and concentration, and a more direct communicative approach. I don't usually mince words, although I am very supportive and gentle. My students seldom suffer self-confidence problems, because we are always too concerned with improving ourselves. As a teacher I am patient and considerate. My first priority with beginner students is developing correct posture and relaxed position of hands. This is of most importance since it is difficult to change posture later on and bad posture can affect not only the quality of musical performance, but the health of the student as well.
