I have had lots of experiences working with young musicians. I assisted my former violin teacher who teaches at Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou supervising some of his students’ practice. I helped my students to prepare for their exams, auditions, performances and competitions and a lot of them achieved satisfying outcomes. I also coached sectionals of a high school orchestra for 2 years and they were awarded 1st prize winner for the first time at the city’s interschool music contest during the second year. Read More

My teaching methods depend on the age and ability of the student. From younger students and beginners to older or more advanced students. For violin, I use my own tailored curriculum. I teaches basic scales, essential techniques to all levels, and various pieces of music depending on the studentxe2x80x99s needs. I use Suzuki, Kayser, Hohmann, the Third Position, etc. and various concertos for advanced students. For piano, I use Alfred Piano course for beginners, and then use Hanon, Sonatine, and other piano pieces. Read More

At a first lesson I try to find out what these needs snd wants are snd discuss the various ways of obtaining these goals. If their goals are not reasonable I will discuss this but I will never destroy their hopes. I once had a six year old student who after one lesson wanted her daughter to compete in this world competition. I thought to myself she couldnt never as l after one lesson and the deadline for the competition was in three months, but I did let her know with time and practice such a goal could be possible. I think it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I try to set goals for my students which match with the student's learning pace at each lesson. Additionally, by trying to find out what inspires the student, I can tailor my instruction to their wants and needs successfully. One way I try to find out what inspires the student by asking what pieces interest them. Read More

Instruments: Violin Fiddle

Born in Washington D.C., I trained on violin in the Arlington area, starting with Suzuki and moving to more traditional classical studies, eventually composing and playing my own compositions starting in my early teens. I attended H.B. Woodlawn Secondary Program where I played in orchestras and numerous string ensembles, including [three?] years with the D.C. Youth Orchestra. At age 5 I took up fiddle, working with expert players from Vermont and North Carolina in jam sessions in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Read More

My belief is that performed music should be fun for the performer as well as the audience. I will always give my best effort when I teach but students are also required to put in effort if they want to learn and become passionate about music. I encourage my students to have regular practice routines but make sure they are not overwhelmed. When I teach I also like to ask my students questions (such as how much bow do you need for this note? or what is the best approach to make this phrase more expressive with your left-hand?) so that students can learn to come up with solutions by themselves and can feel comfortable practicing without my always being there to guide them. Easy Piano Rock Songs: Six Rock Classics You Should Play On Piano

...Frey.   Why You Should Learn To Play This Song On the Piano   Like “Hey Jude,” this is a song that lives and dies by the vocal lines. If you “clunk” out the tune in a mechanical way, your audience will cringe (and maybe die). Listen to Don Henley’s vocals and get a feel for his inflections and emphasis. Then take that emotion to the keyboard and come up with some of your own phrasing ideas. Imagine you’re a vocalist (if you’re not already singing along), and write in breath marks where a singer would need to breathe. This ... Read More

...mentions that the cornet almost overtook the trumpet in orchestras and performing ensembles. Although the trumpet did manage to maintain its place of prominence, the fact remains that without the influence of the cornet, trumpet players would have likely continued trying to play modern music on the large F and G trumpets of the day. German trumpeter A. Kuhnert gets credit for introducing the B Flat trumpet to Germany in the mid-19th century, according to Grove Online.   The C Trumpet The C trumpet followed a similar pattern to the B flat. Reading Music and Reading Words Are Very Similar

...same amount of time that it would take them to move over a quarter note in the same piece, provided that the music is flowing at the same rate, of course.   It can take a long time to develop this skill. Most of the time, theory professors will teach students singing to help them develop the skill necessary to sight read. There is something about actually learning to sing that helps a lot of students learn how to read music. Of course, this likely has to do with the same effect that happens when children learn how to read. They already know how to speak, and all they ... Read More
