I started teaching private voice lessons in 1984 during my junior year at Oberlin. While at Yale, I was awarded a teaching assistantship (1986-88). Since then I have maintained a private studio of voice students in Chicago. Ive had experience both with students who love classical music to those who sing musical theater, spirituals, choral singers, etc. I love teaching and nothing is more gratifying than hearing a students progress. For the past 20 years, I've studied and performed with keyboards, guitars and woodwind instruments while exploring a very wide variety of music ranging from classical and rock to jazz and avant-garde. Expanding and sharing that knowledge with other people in a helpful and friendly manner is something that I consummately enjoy- especially if they're beginning where I once was. My education includes a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from DePaul University, and I've been working on my Music Education Certificate at UMSL since August 2014. Read More

Every student is unique. Therefore, a student's learning process should complement that uniqueness. I like to take time to figure out exactly what "speaks" to a student. What really works for some is completely lost on others. I tailor my instruction to their wants and needs, and take close note of the activities to which they respond well. In doing so, the student meets their goals in a quicker and more enjoyable way. Read More

My teaching style is relaxed and easy going. This is because I try my best to cater to my student's needs. My goal when teaching a student is to be a resource to help them reach their full musical potential. This can be done by setting realistic goals, practice routines and using tension free techniques. I also try my best when teaching to give my students a safe space where they can feel free to grow, create, and express. Read More

I'm an upbeat instructor who loves helping young singers realize their own potential. I pride myself on teaching not only the HOW but also the WHY technique works. No matter what the style the singer wants to perform, I firmly believe a solid base in classical technique can be transferred to any style. I have performed with multiple symphonic choirs and also had the chance to sing backup for Madonna at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
Personally I am interested in many different genres of music (classical voice, jazz voice, classical piano, jazz piano, accompanying), and in college I was able to take many different kinds of lessons to fulfill my needs. As a result, I feel very comfortable teaching others about all sorts of different genres of music. Read More
