I began teaching while in my undergrad in pedagogy classes that helpedus learn the art of teaching voice privately. I acquired severalstudents my last year of my undergrad and my studio grew in to myMaster's. As a part of my assistantship in my Master's, I taught VoiceClasses, which were classes of undergraduate music students whoseprimary instrument was not voice and who were required to take voiceinstruction for their majors, such as Music Education or MusicTherapy. With each new student, I assess their abilities and goals. From this information, I will make a decision reagrding which method I will use to teach the students their instrument. As lessons progress, the curriculum becomes more challenging. Depending on each students abilities and goals, I will most likely one of the following methods: Faber, Alfred, John Thompson, or Suzuki. In addition to teaching students how to play their instrument, each of these methods include supplemental theory materials, helping students to understand the language of music, which helps them become even better musicians. The greatest moment for me is seeing that "click" happen when one of my students suddenly gets a concept that had been completely foreign to them before. That being said, every student has a different learning style, so it is important to me to get to know them as well so that we can set realistic goals and expectations per week and per month. A system of rewarding accomplishments and letting students see how far they have come always works well, in my experience. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding for me than the "lightbulb" moments. To see a student light up with excitement over the satisfaction of knowing he or she has been able to achieve or conquer a concept or a piece of music is so awesome for me. I love helping students travel the process of going from point A to Z. I love the challenge of inspiring students through the difficult times when it would be easier to just give up and quit. I then attended Housatonic College where the Costanzo brothers, Sonny and Sam, headed the music department. Sonny is a renowned trombonist in the New York City area who has played over the years with Clark Terry’s big band and now leads his own. One of the highlights into my ventures with jazz was to study under John Mehegan, noted scholar, author and educator. John set into motion the study of jazz theory and improvisation with his four book series on the subject, which is still highly recognized today. Read More

As being a student of some great singers, teachers and Maestros of Bel canto style of singing here and in Italy, I am a strong believer and practitioner of that school. Just like any other instrument, ours is one and the same, no matter what style we choose to perform. The only difference is- we, as singers, must build our instrument as well as learn how to use it at the same time. if built wrong, it wont work, or last. Read More

I have been experiencing the love of playing and performing music for 40 years and still find it challenging to this day. Music is a journey of the senses which can open and expand our minds. For the first 11 years of my musical journey, I journeyed hours and hours in the discovery of the rhythms, notes and expression but I journeyed in solitude. What a wonderful joy wasawaiting me when I discovered how much fun it was to make music as part of an ensemble or as I like to think of it, a team.A musical team can be a band, an orchestra, a chorus, a churchchoir,a quartet, ora duet, and in all cases it is exhilarating to make music with other people.I hope that I can guide and encourage my students to learn to enjoy this journey that can provide a life time of adventure, social interaction and creativity.
