I started teaching privately in 2010, beginning with in home lessons. Since then I have taught in a private studio, working with students of all ages, levels, and musical sounds. I have even taught classes at the college level, focusing on music theory and history of rock and roll. What I love about teaching music is how I get to share my passion for music and the arts with my students, show that how great it is, and guide them to reaching their own musical goals, exceed their own expectations, and grow as individuals. Teaching and playing music have always been closely linked for me throughout my career. I began performing professionally at thirteen, and two years later began giving private lessons, constantly incorporating new techniques and lessons I was learning from my gigs into my teaching curriculum. This early start in both areas has provided a wonderful foundation for my teaching and performing careers, both of which have continued for more than a decade and a half. Read More

I love seeing my students learn and progress! That's why the student and I set goals for the student, whether it's learning a new song, practicing a certain amount of minutes a week, or auditioning for something like a musical or talent show! Setting small goals like these helps the student feel accomplished, and want to continue to work on their new found skills. I find that goal setting keeps the student interested and engaged in the long run. Read More

I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. Performing in various Jazz groups throughout the state has enhanced my teaching knowledge in the field of music education. My Masters degree in music education has enabled me to develop as a well rounded instrumental music teacher, and also as a flexible individual when it comes to understanding my students' musical needs. As I mentioned, I believe creativity should be encouraged. I am okay with any pace the student goes at, however I will still hold them to a high standard in terms of effort put in. I try and make each lesson fun and enjoyable, as well as a creative experience that still focuses on theory and fundamentals. I generally tend to split the lessons up into warm up techniques, repertoire, sight reading, listening/dictation, discussing music the student likes/wants to learn, and improvisation and songwriting. I want the lessons to be a fun and exciting process. I love working with ages 11-85 and try to accommodate and feel how their singing becomes more and more joyful. Singing scales, breathing at times against a wall, moving arms and singing with joy, all help students enjoy and create the sound and rhythms they are comfortable with. I always encourage students to believe in their talents and choose repertoire they love! Read More
