During my undergraduate time I was apart of those vocal ensembles and worked closely with professors and students to write, arrange and perform full length vocal compositions. Soon after graduation, I was a full-time musician giving freelance voice lessons, and also teaching jazz voice while an artist in residency at Duke Ellington. During my time at Duke, I continued to perform and record around Washington, DC. This is where I began to be recognized for my talent, and was approached by an independent label who would soon thereafter move me to Atlanta, Ga to pursue my goal of being a full-time artist. I have no expectations of my students until they show me what they're capable of. After our first two lessons, I start to really stress the importance of practicing on their own time as well. Singing is part muscle memory and your muscles can't memorize what they aren't consistently doing! I use a very kinesthetic approach to my teaching in that I focus on how the entire body feels when my student is singing the correct way versus how it feels when they are singing incorrectly (unhealthily).
