I usually begin with the Suzuki method for both children and adults, and once the student has a good command of fundamental violin technique, we progress in the style of the student's primary interest. I am very open to teaching a variety of styles, and can put together a detailed lesson plan for any direction the student may choose. In the event that the student is primarily focused on areas other than the classical repertoire, I definitely begin with Mark O'Connor's violin method that is specifically designed for students interested in traditional folk and fiddle music. I believe the process of learning involves a step-by-step building of knowledge and skill, reinforcing previous accomplishments in order to be prepared for new developments. Therefore I create a plan for each lesson with specific goals of student achievement. At times however, even the most carefully prepared lesson can evolve into unexpected pathways. In the beginning stages the curriculum is designed primarily based around the music theory required for playing the instrument at a high level. The lessons bounce back and forth between theory introduction and theory application. This continues throughout the beginning lessons, going from method to method accordingly. I was always able to sing. I started piano in the 5th grade. I played trumpet in high school and made all state band 3 years in a row. I attended college at Houston Baptist University where I received a full scholarship to study music. Once I graduated I was immediately hired to do a national tour which was followed by 5 others.
