For more advanced students, I like to lean towards assigning some transcriptions to learn, and hand-picking what artists' playing will benefit my students the most. For all students, I also enjoy diving into some music theory and explaining why things work and why things in music make sense! Most of all, I want to make sure my students are engaged, having a good time, and are given enough material to work with in and out of lesson time to make sure that they have the tools to be the best musician they can! If you wish to educate, you must inspire first. Each student is encouraged to proceed at a pace that is suited to their aptitude, goals, schedule and drive. Positive acknowlegement of achievements, clear communication and demonstration of techniques, opportunities to play with others at a similar level of growth and an atmosphere of musical community are key to the progress of my students. To inspire, instruct, and enjoy music is the mesaage the teacher should be imparting to the student. Read More

For younger students who are just beginning, I would start with fun and entertaining warm ups that are designed to develop a strong foundation without relying on complicated terms. We would focus on discovering a joy and love for music and from there will develop a beginner's repertoire. For students who are a little older, I would focus on finding out what they hope to gain from voice lessons, and from there guide their learning in whatever direction they would like. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I like to go slow at first and see how things go lesson by lesson. I never like to challenge my students too much in the beginning because it can be rather frustrating to continue learning music. I also believe theory is very important and will ALWAYS include this in my teaching. Read More

For beginning students, who especially are children, I normally start from the fundamentals of voice technique in a very informal and fun way, so the students can enjoy the process of learning with ease and stress-free. When the student has a grasp of the basics, we start building a repertoire and working more specifically on performance skills. With adults, I generally try to understand first their goals, their specific needs, and guide my instruction accordingly to maintain the lesson engaging, interesting and fun, no matter their ability level. I cater each lesson to each individual students needs. The thing that I love about teaching private lessons is that each and every student is different. Whereas with group and classroom teaching, you try to make each student fit the mold, private students, I try to fit YOUR mold! What makes you tick? What is your passion? What drove you to want to learn your instrument? Who inspires you? I look forward to learning all these things and MORE about you! Read More
