It is very important for students to understand the theory associated with their teaching. Therefore, students are constantly quizzed to verify cognitive relation to newly learned information. If students can connect the science & skill of knowledge it is retained long term. This encourages the student to think and respond quicker. ...keeps them on their toes. I teach for matey of information, therefore, I am always reviewing. In addition, as the student learn, I also play along with them on most occasions. Read More

As a voice teacher, I have greatly enjoyed sharing the gift of music with others. It is important to me that singers always find joy and fulfillment in making music. I work with each singer to choose repertoire that is interesting and enjoyable to work on, and that will allow them to grow musically. We set goals from week to week that will encourage home practice as well, since just like any other skill, learning to perform musically takes time and dedication. Read More

I am dedicated to training beginner to advanced voices using a mixture of classical and pop techniques. For younger students, I typically begin with just getting them comfortable to sing by letting them choose the songs they love to listen to, and using vocal techniques that are easy for them to grasp and understand. For my pre-teen, and teenage students I work on more pre-advanced vocal techniques that they can utilize while singing the songs they love. When I have an adult student, I like to use pre-advanced to advanced vocal techniques as a larger part of the lesson, and help them to apply those techniques to whatever projects they are already working on outside of the studio. For young beginner students (Ages 3-7) I typically start them with the Music for Little Mozart Series (4 books total). I pair that with fun music games, rhythm practice, listening activities and other misc. activities. At this age it is difficult for them to sit at the piano bench for the whole lesson so we only spend about half the lesson (but split up) at the piano and the other half learning basic music concepts through games. I began teaching almost five years ago privately freshly out of high school. I taught for two years privately and then taught with a music company for the last two and one-half years. Because of my extensive classical and jazz training, teaching beginning all the way to advanced students was a pleasure.I have found that every student has their own learning style and that it is my duty as an instructor to adapt to their particular learning style.I pride myself on being a versatile, engaging and personable instructor. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with note naming and sound. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. My goal in my method is to get my students fluent in playing the piano and knowing the methods of piano. Read More

Meet the student where they are at and take them where they want to go. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments help fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Read More
