My favorite teaching experience is when I took on a nine-year-old piano student who had never written a song, and wouldn’t practice to save his life. I found that getting him to write a piece of music that was entirely his own helped him to practice his technique in a way that was fun and creatively satisfying. His first composition went on to win a county-wide award for best original song. Read More

One of my favorite parts of teaching is supporting my students in the development of their authentic voices. Every student is unique and special in their own way, that's why I tailor each lesson for that specific student and I meet them exactly where they are. This allows the student to progress at their own pace. I encourage this development by setting realistic goals for each lesson, and acknowledging their accomplishments. Read More

I am a passionate, optimistic and hardworking person who loves teaching music. I believe music is a great way to express oneself. I always want my students to feel comfortable in their lessons as it is a safe place. I also encourage them to reach outside their comfort zones and challenge themselves. My experience performing and teaching has shaped me into who I am today and I have learned so much from my own mentors. Read More

Although my experience working with students goes back to high school, I began teaching at professional studios while completing my BA in Music. I also taught private lessons out of my own studio and even gave some pro bono lessons so I could put what I was learning at university into action. I started teaching Disney and Pop music to kids and teens and decided to expand my teaching to anything a student has to offer in Vocal Performance. Read More

All of my students work on tried and true Bel Canto and Swedish techniques. I will give each student special vocal exercises to work on at home. I generally assign songs from The 24 Italian Songs and Arias songbook and I use Musical Theater Anthologies. Some of my more advanced High School students work on Opera arias. Read More

The exercises are designed to work through the process of singing, allowing students the ability to employ their unique voices. I teach using plain language that is developmentally appropriate and grounded in anatomy and the physical practice of singing. This allows me to help guide students to independence and understanding about how to best mobilize their voices without the use of mysterious imagery that, at best, only works sporadically. Using my strong understanding of vocal anatomy and development, I tailor my explanations so they are developmentally appropriate for all ages. Read More

For basic piano, I start students with the Piano Adventure Primer level lesson book, which can easily be ordered online or found in your closest music store. If the student has little experience in music literacy, this is a great place to start and we can further explore where their interest in music lies. For singers, we will take the music they like to sing or whatever repertoire they are working on in a school or amateur ensemble and ensure free and healthy singing. Read More
