I was a member of the University of Sonora choir for more than 4 years, always leading the tenor chords, helping them to achieve musicality and hearing all kinds of voices. I helped them with the piano to sing different voice melodies in different languages. When I graduated, I started to take private students, helping them with breathing and music lines. My Teaching experience with playing the guitar is correlated to my experience as a Florida Teacher. I spent a lot of time using the guitar to build rapport and create positive teacher/student relationships that motivated students to achieve not only with the guitar but their academics as well. I have plenty of experience teaching students how to change chords, finger placement between frets, and surviving sore finger syndrome. Since I am also a composer and arranger, I tend to be partial towards the use of my own "homemade" methods.... taking on the idea of composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann (example would be Album of the Young) and writing simple pieces that reinforce specific technical challenges like double thirds, left hand arpeggios, consecutive octaves, pedalling and so on. For beginning level students of any age, I will begin lessons by going over basic fundamentals of sheet music reading (notation, connecting the instrument to the literature) and music theory that will aid them in accomplishing homework tasks independently. For experienced students, I will ask the student to demonstrate knowledge and playing to their best ability to obtain a better understanding of where to continue their studies. I will also ask all students what kind of music they are already studying and what else they would like to pick up from there (studying classical contemporary for school band with an interest in starting jazz music, etc.) I will always consider the students age and playing level to appropriately create lesson plans that will ensure growth over time.
