I have been teaching for over ten years. I started out with just a handful of students, and have since grown to have a student base of over forty students. I have taught all ages and all levels. While my life took some time away from music, I still held a strong belief that music is at the very essence of human expression and can hold academic as well as therapeutic affects for students young and old. For this reason, I returned to university to get my teaching license in general music with a vocal emphasis. The voice is the center of human expression, and I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to unlock this uniquely human ability to communicate thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. Read More

I generally do not teach directly from a book. I only use them as guides. I always felt that was the lazy way of doing things. A book doesn't know the student. I find that students of any age, learn and adapt to teaching in different ways and speeds. I start from the very bottom and we build every lesson, using previous lessons as building blocks. I take pride in teaching the way that works best for you or your child. Read More

During the initial lesson I sit down with my students and discuss exactly what they are looking to glean from private instruction. Then we develop a game plan. Some students achieve at a faster pace than others because talent develops differently from everyone. I also ensure that every student has strong music theory foundation so that they understand singing isn't just what you hear but what you know in your mind. Read More

I have several methods, but mostly I teach to sing based on solfeage and songs, either italian, german, latin, spanish, and french. Solfeage helps the student to understand better sheet music and also helps understand the real emotion of the piece, among other things involved in a piece. For guitar I use Hal Leonard guitar method. I think that it is important to learn music and how to read it with your instrument. Read More
