For beginner students who are children I like to start by teaching them the songs that they like, because that keeps them focused on learning and engaged in the beginning. Then I go on to teach them the industry standards and classics that every guitar player needs to know to be effective. Finally I can move on to teaching theory and the reason why songs sound good in the first place all the while doing both Mel Bay and Hal Leonard lessons when applicable. Read More

My teaching style is very relaxed and laid back. I like to let the students be themselves and tell me exactly what they personally are trying to achieve with their music. If they want to secretly be a metalhead shredding like Steve Vai, I want them to tell me and I will be happy to help them get there! If they want to be the next Taylor Swift, that's okay too! Whether you are a beginner or a professional, I cannot stress the philosophy that practicing a little each and every day is vastly more important than trying to cram it all into one day out of your week. If you are a beginner we start with the very basics such as the Hal Leonard method or something similar. I also find it very important to learn your musical tastes and goals! Read More

I teach them to play scales with a metronome and they are usually playing 16 th notes and counting it out while they play it in the first month.I want to get them off and running. I teach them to read chord charts in the first month and have students reading notation in F and G clef in 5-6 hours worth of lesson time. My theory teacher Mr Lormand, had a master from Julliard and was a stickler for the vernacular and so am I, my grandmother was a school teacher and I get a lot from her as well.I get my students to buy a Harvard Dictionary of music for reference. I've been teaching private lessons for approximately 15 years. I've worked with all ages and skill levels across many genres. I would say my speciality is working with teenagers and adults who are just starting to figure out more specific directions they want to move in, and helping them dial in their goals and musical vocabulary. I love a mixed approach using songs my students listen to, ear training to be able to play by ear more accurately/faster, practical applied theory so that students can take the concepts of songs they love and use them on their own terms, and understanding what it is to be a rhythm section instrument because everyone who makes music is responsible for rhythm. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
