Teaching and playing music have always been closely linked for me throughout my career. I began performing professionally at thirteen, and two years later began giving private lessons, constantly incorporating new techniques and lessons I was learning from my gigs into my teaching curriculum. This early start in both areas has provided a wonderful foundation for my teaching and performing careers, both of which have continued for more than a decade and a half. Read More

I encourage each student to build a list of their favorite songs. This helps them to always have something new, and something to review. It is very rewarding to see my students being able to play one of their favorite songs from beginning to end. I also help my students create their own original songs when they are inspired to do so. For myself at least, music has provided me with a sense of higher purpose, as well as given me many lifelong friends along my own musical journey! My goal is to have each one of my students be able to have that same experience, in a way that is tailored to them and their needs! I feel learning is best achieved when the student has real interest in the material. Read More

My teaching experience began in 2016, when I enrolled in a degree program in secondary education at Southern Connecticut State University. At Southern, I learned very much about human development, and teaching methods and strategies. I also gained over 120 hours of classroom observation experience. Upon graduating with a B.A. degree in Physics (Southern doesn't offer music education degrees), I was hired as a Paraprofessional in a New Haven Public School. Read More

I use several different method books for teaching. The books I typically use are Alfred's Basic Guitar, Mel Bay's beginner books as well as Hal Leonard's melody books. I teach beginner students the basics of how to properly hold their guitar, hand and finger placement, and simple note reading and chords. For more advanced students I teach theory and how they can apply it in order to be more creative. Read More

As my student my goal will be to help you become a diverse and well rounded musician. For beginners I like to start with the Smiandl Method. This, being a classical method book, will give a strong foundation in technique that translates easily between upright and electric bass. With these building blocks firmly set we can start the real fun! For intermediate to advanced students the world is your oyster! Read More

I am a veteran of the teaching profession. I graduated from S.C.S.U. in 1986 and I have been instructing students in many capacities since that time. Some attributes I bring to my profession are a calm, understanding demeanor and a passion for helping my students achieve their individual goals. My motivation for remaining in this profession for this length of time is the benefit I pass to my students. Read More
