First of all, I would ask the student if music would be his/her career or just a hobby. If it is to be his/her career, my approach would be more theoretical. But if it would be just a hobby like mine, I would encourage the student to learn by ear supplemented with a little theory to be able to learn a musical piece or song in the shortest time possible. My teaching style is focussed very much on what the student wishes to learn. Having a set guide pf progression is necessary but not when forced upon. My style involves exploring music together, understanding the thought process behind different pieces of music and applying concepts in fun innovative ways. I have also designed many musical games that are fun and help students remember things better. With every student I put together a custom lesson plan that is designed to show yardsticks and milestones for the student in how they are moving forward with their instrument. Read More

I am new to teaching but I have worked as an organizer and choir leader in my high school and college, giving me the experience I need to have an organized curriculum for new students that is interesting and actually impactful. I aim to teach younger beginner guitarists how to best pick up the instrument and learn by playing the songs that they actually like! Breaking them down so they understand the music, but also feel like they're learning the necessary skills to pick up and play any song they want in the future and perform confidently. Read More

I began my teaching career in Texas. I have worked as a private guitar instructor at various music schools in Texas and in Southern California for the past twelve years. I also enjoy teaching guitar, ukulele, and bass guitar to students in my home studio. It's been my privilege to also teach guitar and ukulele to students in after school programs. In addition to teaching guitar I also worked as a technical theatre instructor for a non-profit community youth theatre for several years while living in Texas. Read More

My teaching style is fun and relaxed but still making sure that you are learning something new in every class, I was a beginner at some point and it brings me joy seeing how the students discover the guitar for the first time because it reminds me of myself when I was just learning. I help set realistic goals to keep the student motivated and guide the student to reach small achievements every week so they can see how fast they can progress with private classes. Read More

Its a great jumping off point to work on finger placement, rhythm and picking; all the while we get to learn a song, too! My intermediate students have focus heavily on musicianship. With these types of students I often play (or jam) with them during lessons. This gives them the chance to start really listening and to use their skills to function as a musician. I find students who miss out on this can often play lots of songs but sometimes are missing solid rhythm and finger placement work. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
