I typically start off by assessing if the student is a beginner, intermediate or advanced. Once the student's skill level has been assessed, a lesson plan will be formulated to best fit their needs. However, for students around beginner level, there is certain mandatory curriculum I teach in order for the student to have a solid fundamental understanding both on the instrument and for music in general. We will mostly focus on technique and theory, performance, as well as more creative and abstract musical aspects. Read More

You'll learn how to put it all together to play things you never thought you could, express your ideas, and take your creativity to the next level! If you are already an advanced player, then most likely you have very specific goals and areas you would like to improve upon. I will create specific exercises and plans to help you take your playing in new directions, and fill in any gaps in your knowledge of music and your instrument. Read More

Attempting to learn an instrument is difficult, and doing so in the presence of an already experienced musician can be intimidating and even discouraging. I am well aware of this fact and make ample effort to make my students comfortable, and to own their music as their own. Each student I teach knows that they are not to simply become a copy of me- instead, their goal is to become their own unique creator that is unlike anyone else. Read More

So we study chords and rhythms, as they relate to the songs the client enjoys. I like to insert a five to ten minute practice before digging into the main lesson. This involves playing scales or running chord progressions or learning about, for example, the circle of 5ths or 4ths. I do teach more advanced levels, in which we learn how to substitute chords and arrange songs. I alwyas build goals into a program as it feels really good to achieve and move on to the next goal! I have always found it to be fulfilling to teach bass and music theory to those who are hungry to learn. I've been teaching part-time since college to help middle school students prepare for their high school jazz band auditions, teach new professionals industry lessons on how to conduct yourself in the work environment, and even just teaching retired senior citizens how to walk a jazz blues! I love to help people get closer to their musical goals no matter what level the student is at. Read More

Each lesson is personalized to the students needs. Their level, age and abilities, type of style that they are interested in learning, as well as how much practicing that they can commit to a week. I also like to incorporate music technology into teaching guitar. By using drum loops for instance and getting students to play chords and rhythm patterns along with loops, makes things more fun and dynamic! If a student wants to learn how to read, we will usually start with a simple method book as well as incorporating TAB into the lesson. Read More

I have taught for over twenty years to all ages and levels. I teach the fun way by teaching the student what they would like to know by tailoring each lesson to fit there personal goals, needs and questions. I've taught all genres and also teach special needs including autistic, handicapped, and blind. As well I've also taught a couple grammy winning musicians. I encourage good effective practice methods instead of long tedious hours I prefer the student to concentrate on quality above quantity. Read More
