I have taught instrumental music in public schools for 5 years which has included teaching grades 5-12 in subjects such as beginning band, beginning orchestra, intermediate band, intermediate orchestra, marching band, percussion ensembles, and small group/individual instruction. I have been teaching private lessons in drums, piano, and concert band instruments for 10 years. I have been a performing member of rock bands, concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands, marching bands, choirs, and percussion ensembles, so I have a very diverse knowledge base which gives me the ability to adapt my instruction as a teacher to meet the needs of any student's goals and aspirations. Through the years, I have compiled sheet music that I wrote out myself of songs that were hard to find/and easier to read. I have hundreds if not thousands of these songs. I start beginner guitar with Neil young songs because they are slow and use basic chords. Also a Pink Floyd song. It has worked for years. From there I teach a Bob Dylan song and sweet home Alabama. I can take on any student of any experience level, from beginner to advanced, young and wise. I love working with kids, and I am great with helping anyone overcome stage fright and develop confidence. One of the qualities I admire of those who have taught me is their approachability and acceptance. I am supportive and encouraging, and I love being able to watch my students grow into powerful artists! I am open to anything and everything that you want to work on. Read More

I started teaching two years ago at a private lesson studio in Denver called My Music Skool. My main focus was on piano and saxophone. Now I teach privately as a freelance musician. Two points I emphasize when teaching are practicing at least once a day no matter how long you play and learning what inspires you. There will always be some sort of theory I sneak in whether it's learning scales or building technical skills that will build confidence and ability, but if these devices aren't being applied to the type of music that inspires the student, then learning music becomes discouraging instead of fun.
