I enjoy teaching students of all ages, from all walks of life, background, cultures, and I have a passion for the community. I also work with the Autistic, ADHD, and Disability community. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Read More

Following a long, fun and successful 20+ year career as a pro musician, I became a full-time music teacher. I was the founding music teacher at St. Benedict's Episcopal school in Smyrna, GA where I taught music K-8 for seven years. Then I joined The SAE School in Mableton, GA, where for the past three years I have taught K-12 music, creating a new middle school orchestra and high school Project Based Learning curriculum for music. I started playing the cello in 5th grade after attending a Middle School showcase where they showed off all their clubs to rising 6th grade students. I ran away from my mother after seeing the Cellist play and went to talk to him. She found me an hour later in the Orchestra room playing with the instrument. Like the great mother she is, she took me to a local music store and had me playing shortly afterwards. Read More

I am excited to begin teaching music. Along with my experience as a classroom teacher, I have also tutored English to ESOL students. As a tutor, I assigned homework regularly and kept students accountable by checking for completion and accuracy. When it comes to learning how to play an instrument, the importance of practicing regularly on one's own cannot be emphasized enough. For my younger students, I will be using accountability notebooks for students to keep a record of when and how long they practiced. Read More

I teach the basics using a combination of methods, customizing lessons to each student's skill level, ability level, and interest (classical/folk/modern). For beginning students I suggest using the Suzuki Method, or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once each student is ready to move beyond the fundamentals, I find exercises and solos to best fit and improve their skill level for recital performances, competitions, strings class/orchestra, or other activities. Even if you want to learn or continue to learn non-classical styles, it is important to have a basis of classical music training (i.e. reading music, proper counting of rhythms, understanding of chord structures, symbols, music terms, music history). This framework will enhance a student's understanding of the music they are learning. I love students who are positive, eager to learn, and I like to engage my students with different types of music, solos, and exercises for technique. Read More

I generally will start off students with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Once the fundamentals from those books have been understood, I will start the students on repertoire that is appropriate for their level. I generally will start off on Classical music, but if the student has a request I will help them work on that song unless I know that their skill level isn't at the point where they can perform that song.
