I believe that I'm an understanding and kind teacher, but I will also be strict enough where students will end up slacking off. It's important that students advance at an appropriate pace - I don't want students to end up wasting their money, their time, and my time. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, and give them tips on how to further improve their playing. Read More

I have been teaching for a few years now. I love meeting new students and helping them develop their technique and love for music. Nothing upsets me more than seeing a discouraging teacher, especially in the field of music. Believe me, I have had my share of bad teachers. In my teaching, I believe that guiding a student into improving and making the most out of their practice is key. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

My teaching style is a combination of Suzuki method and traditional method. Having learned with the traditional method, I feel it is vital and extremely important for students to learn to read music from the point at which they start reading books and words, this is typically at age 5. For students under age 5 we begin learning everything by ear, once they start reading we introduce reading notes. I'm passionate about having a parent present for every lesson as it is extremely important that a parent or caretaker learn the material so they can be the teacher at home during the week for practice sessions. I gravitate towards the Essential Elements for Strings books for beginner students because the books so effortlessly combine the first steps of cello playing with basic concepts of music theory and history. I then use a combination of cello duets, etudes (like Dotzauer and S.Lee), and method books (Feuillard) for technical studies. I always incorporate traditional music for the cello (like Bach Cello Suites, famous cello concertos), but work with students on whatever music they enjoy. Read More
