I emphasize ergonomic/body comfort in playing the cello. Comfort is most important before being able to progress and reach technical heights. There is no formula for any single student to make progress. I work with students to discover their goals on the cello, and to help them expand as instrumentalists, musicians and human beings. Musically, I focus heavily on music theory which I will explain as necessary. I place importance on theory because it allows an understanding of musical patterns that can be easily applied on the cello. Read More

I believe patience and versatility are very important, as each student learns a different way. I set goals for each lesson and try to guide the student during the lesson into achieving them. Sometimes the goals are achieved during the lesson, and sometimes while practicing on hteir own time. I don't believe in achieving "perfection", but rather developing a solid understanding and connection with the piece, which is accomplished through putting in hard work and effort. Read More

Also, I don't like to force my students to play anything that they don't like, I will definitely communicate with my students about their goal of learning music, and then I will make a best learning plan for the individuals. Moreover, I will write down the lesson notes for every students, and send the notes to them as a reminder of what they should practice, so that they won't forget about it. Read More

Teaching should never revolve around the notion that "perfection" is the ultimate" goal. This way of thinking not only provides my students with a false sense of hope, but more importantly is simply unattainable. In the modern age of playing, too often do I feel students losing sight of what is most important: the music. While good intonation and rhythm are certainly important, what I hope to instill in each of my students is a level of understanding far beyond learning the "notes" on the page. Read More
