Cellist Minjung Kang was born and raised in South Korea. At age of 7, she began her music studies in piano and won multiple awards in piano competitions by the age of 9 such as Piano competitions hosted by famous piano manufacturing companies in Korea such as Samick and Young Chang. At age of 11, she had her first piano recital at Hoam Performing Art Center as the award of the competition. I am a cellist currently living in NYC, and have am experienced in performing, recording, and teaching experience. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2014, where I received my Bachelor's degree in cello performance. There, I studied classical, rock, folk, and improvisation on the cello. I've had the opportunity to play in Boston's Symphony Hall, as well as many other venues in the city. In 2014, I recorded cello for the Documentary Watchers of the Sky, premeired in the Sundance Film Festival, and from July to October, I performed with the Anna Myer Dance Company in New York City and Boston.    From January- March 2016, I was the cello teacher for the Enriching Lives Through Music program in San Rafael, California. As an avid chamber musician and collaborator, I have enjoyed playing and performing in a variety of chamber ensembles for 12 years, and I have been awarded scholarships to attend chamber music festivals such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Summit Music Festival. Currently, I am completing my Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance with Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA, and I am actively teaching and performing around the Greater Boston area. I do not use any particular "methods" of teaching, although I did begin out on Suzuki. And while I do believe this is an important methodogy, Suzuki does have its flaws as do most of its kind. As I mentioned earlier, theory, harmony, and music history (as rudimentary as they may be at the beginning) are crucial for all students regardless of their level. I recently began registration with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and am in the process of becoming a Suzuki certified teacher for Book 1. I find the Suzuki method extremely helpful for starting young students, however I also like to use other resources such as the Essential Elements book for beginners. I also want to focus heavily on note reading and sight reading at a younger age, so students have a solid foundation if and when they become members of orchestras or other ensembles. Read More
