Instruments: Piano Cello
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with teaching basic music theory, scales, and start with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course for the piano students. For Cello beginning students, it's very important to have a correct playing position. Therefore, we will spend some time on knowing cello, position for both hands, and then we will start with Suzuki. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Read More

In spite of the short amount of time together, I felt it was crucial to inspire as much artistry and musicianship as possible so that students left their experience with more than just learned notes. I currently work as an ensemble coach with the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and teach privately around the Boston area. When working with any student, I aim to bring out the interests that make them want to play the cello. Read More

As regular cello practice is a vital part of improvement, I am a firm believer that practice should be treated as a privilege, an activity that sparks discovery and joy, rather than an everyday chore, and I work with my students to determine a style and schedule for practicing that allows them to enjoy spending time on the cello regularly, exploring musical possibilities and having fun with what they are playing while preventing musical burnout. For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest. For younger or beginner students, I reinforce the Suzuki books with sight-reading, and as they progress, I add in etude studies. Read More

I center the way I teach technique around what "feels" good to a student, especially older students who have already started, to make sure that we are able to prevent and respond to injuries. So, I start with stretching and will frequently refer back to exercises that are meant to integrate physical ease into playing. Aside from that, I try to balance a consistent routine/expectation of things I want to cover (asking for things a week in advance, always playing a scale at the start of the lesson, etc), while also meeting a student where they are at on the day. Every student has different pace of of growth. The most important goal in my teaching for both students and myself is making a progress. Little encouragement helps students to not to lose their interest in music, and continue to work harder to improve. However, sometime little bitter reality is also needed. With a good combination of both, I lead my students to set their realistic goals and help them achieve them. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola Music Keyboard
I began teaching Piano and Violin at the age of 15 to people between the ages of 4 to 65. This eventually moved on to classroom settings for strings and Chorus. One thing Ive learned from all this time is that people want to be able to actually PLAY and have FUN. Music Theory and the Fundamentals are are important but the engagement and the motivation to maintain consistent work over the course of our time together! Read More
