Teaching is a huge responsibilty that I do not take light heartedly. If we as teachers do a suburd job, it will have a huge effect on a students over all life. Musical education teaches us about the mind and body and balance between the two. It teaches us logic, problem solving, and creative thinking in balance with eachother. It teaches us posture, breath, how to think. It teaches us to listen, and to communicate, to engage with others, it teaches us work ethic and how to colloborate with anyone. Read More

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Most of my students have been accepted to all county or all state. This comes through hard work and dedication on my student's behalf as well as the right kind of encouragement on mine.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
In my undergraduate at the Eastman School of Music, I competed in the concerto competition I worked an entire year to be able to put on a performance I was proud of. I got 2nd place (Runner up) but aside from slightly losing I left the stage knowing I played my best and was incredibly proud of myself for putting in the work until the end and feeling happy with the outcome.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had a teacher who would take the extra time to show me articles from an instrument specific magazine. Not only did my teacher teach me how to play the bass but they also taught me how to love the bass and the culture and that is priceless.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I chose the bass because I was the shortest in my class, I had a teacher who told me I was too small the play the big instrument and I didnt like that answer very much. If it wasn't for my stubbornness, I may have never picked it in the first place. But I did, and I practiced just to show her that I could play and before I knew it, I was in love with the instrument.
When will I start to see results?
With fields like the arts you get out of it what you put in. A student who practices everyday will see results sooner than a student who does not. Working towards consistency and accuracy alongside with good technique helps solidify the basics which help you excel later. All these concepts together should come with time.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If your child has a willingness and eagerness to learn they are ready. The next step would be to find a teacher that can teach with your child's goals in mind. If starting with 20 minute or 30 minute lessons is better for their attention span than that may be a better start than jumping in the deep end.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Consistency! If you work on concepts correctly with consistency you are sure to see results in no time! Start slow to make sure the basic concepts are there then solidify those concepts through consistently working on them.
