I have been playing the cello for forty years and teaching for twenty. I love helping students of all ages realize their goals of playing and performing cello music. Although I do not have an academic background in music, I have studied privately with teachers who have been members of the New York Philharmonic and Juilliard faculty. In addition to playing and performing chamber music for the past thirty years in local venues, I am also a co-founder of the American Chamber Orchestra, a community orchestra that has performed for twenty seasons and toured Europe with performances in many countries. The learning process should be, for the most part, fun and based upon a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Curriculum and lesson plans are based on student's abilities and aspirations with appropriate balance between theoretical and practical work. The lesson material is always carefully chosen, and when necessary, adapted to specific learning needs. With a proper approach, everyone can learn to play music. Whether you want to pursue a music career, or just play for fun and enjoyment I can help you attain your goals. Read More

While I work with all students to build a solid technical cello foundation, I want my students to play and immerse themselves in the pieces and music they love most so that they stay inspired to explore the cello. WIth the understanding that everyone has different aspirations and expectations, I teach students with the hope that they are all comfortable challenging themselves, learning from making mistakes, and are ultimately happy with their musical progress. I usually start with an etude but I have experience with the level system with eastman community school of music and can start a plan based on the needs of the individual. I usually use Hal Leonards Essential Elements for total beginners but have experience with other schools of teaching such as Suzuki. For adult students, I usually start with fundamentals and then touch up on anything that needs improvement based on weekly assessments that are filled out by the student. Read More

I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. Performing in various Jazz groups throughout the state has enhanced my teaching knowledge in the field of music education. My Masters degree in music education has enabled me to develop as a well rounded instrumental music teacher, and also as a flexible individual when it comes to understanding my students' musical needs. I've enjoyed teaching piano, violin and viola students, for the past seventeen years! And what I've generally found is, that it's not how long you practice, but how well. I feel that a student needs to be taught how to practice! I travel around Westchester NY and in addition to teaching the instrument, I encourage students to compose their own original pieces. I am a published composer and many of my music videos can be seen on You Tube. Read More
