My motto is my students create their own lesson. I formulate lesson plans off of the styles of music you are most interested in. If my student has a more "just for fun" attitude, the lesson will inevitably be a more light hearted feel. I am an avid performer of classical and contemporary music and a teacher based in Portland, OR. As a doctoral candidate at the University of Washington, I won the 2015 Concerto Competition and was a member of the scholarship chamber music ensemble for 3 years. I currently am the cello instructor at George Fox University in Newberg, OR and keep a private studio in West Linn, OR and in NE Portland. My teaching method incorporates elements of the Russian school of cello playing (what I myself grew up learning) in addition to elements of Suzuki style aural training and Alexander Technique total body awareness. Often teachers just focus on the physical mechanics of cello playing and wait to teach aural skills or music theory until the student enters a collegiate music program. This inhibits the student's natural potential for growth and fails to teach the student comprehensive musicianship. Read More
