I would describe my teaching style as fun and goal oriented. I want my students to love music! It's obviously important that each student progresses in their playing as well as their understanding of music. A method I use is knows as PSP (Praise, Suggest, Praise). I like to acknowledge accomplishments to promote a positive environment. Part of what I like to do is find out what makes a student want to play music. Read More

Music is like learning a new language. Its a completely different concept. For beginning children repetion is the key. Children love repetion so Suzuki is perfect. Dr. Suzuki's idea is the mother and child learn the instrument at the same time so that the child can hear the tunes and can play it on the violin. - My teaching style is one of the many things that sets me a part from other teachers. I work to create a fundamental relationship with my students to find out what their goals are, what specific level they are at currently, and where they want to take their talents. Once I’ve discovered these essential things, I work with my student at their own pace of comfort and challenge to allow them to learn the things that interest them as well as continue to develop as a musician. I love seeing students realize their own progress. I always like to start with recording a first attempt and then recording it again once it has been mastered so they can see their progress. I focus on positive reinforcement teaching. It is very easy, especially for a new student, to get bogged down in not making progress fast enough so I like to make sure they see all the steps they're taking and also know where it will lead them. All of which are “high-level”, professional, touring festival bands. I’ve spent the past 20 years immersed in the Atlanta music community and it has been a valuable and immeasurable learning experience. Read More
