I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. There are some great solo books especially the Kris books 1-3 that come with nice piano accompaniments.
