There are many terrific methods and books available for musical development. An easy and enjoyable starter is Essential Elements. The Eubanks series is good, especially the advanced flute book one. There are some great solo books especially the Kris books 1-3 that come with nice piano accompaniments. Students really benefit from scale technique development coupled with arpeggio and varied articulation studies like Klose for Clarinet and Melodiusvand Progressive Studies for Saxophone. Read More

I usually balances the time by working first on fundamental/technical aspects of the instrument: intonation, articulation, rhythm, and tone; followed by study of the particular student's chosen repertoire, whether it be jazz standards, rock/pop/blues tunes, classical literature or etudes. I believe in teaching students to organize their practice time wisely, isolating specific issues on the instrument. Cultivating personal musical goals with each student is also very important, in order to maximize the student's enjoyment of the time they spend playing. Read More

During the first lesson, I get to know the student, find out their interests and determine which course will be the best start. The most important thing for all students is to keep the lessons engaging and fun. Piano: For younger beginning students, I typically start with the Alfred Basic Piano Library. Older beginners start with Alfred's All In One Piano Course. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly. Read More

I am a Music Educator with a lot of trumpet playing experience. I have never stopped playing my trumpet. I practice my trumpet as time permits and perform every chance I have. I like to travel and study musical styles and instruments from different countries. I also love the outdoors. I am passionate about instrumental music and want my students to feel the same. I want them to share in the knowledge that music is a special skill they will have all of their life and I hope that they will be enthusiastic about sharing their skills, knowledge and love of music with others.
