Beginner clarinet students usually start with the Hendrickson Method for Clarinet Book One. This book teaches the most basic fundamentals all the way through advanced techniques while also giving the student a chance to learn more about music as a whole. Once the fundamentals are mastered, solo repertoire will be introduced for recitals or competitions. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. For beginning students, I focus on creating great tone quality and establishing excellent practice habits. I typically recommend the Rubank Elementary Method for beginners, but many students have to purchase other texts such as Accent on Achievement or the Hal Leonard Essential Elements for their beginning band class. In any case, these will also work for beginning lessons! Once a student advances, I will have them work on all Major and Minor scales found within the Klose Scale Sheet (located on my website), then we will move to the Baermann scale book. Read More
