Hello! I'm 25 year Berklee College of Music Alumnus with 16 years playing experience! I started studying the saxophone at 9 years old and spent most of my early school years performing in community, school, and local college jazz bands around the Seattle-Tacoma area of Washington State. My music has given me the opportunity to travel the world, and in summer of 2016, I conducted a tour of Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda with my band the AfroXchange in conjunction with music therapy organization Global Youth Groove where I hosted jazz masterclasses, as well as performed at clubs and festivals, and assisted a music therapy team around the countryside. I am a life-long musician [age 5 - present] from a family of musicians who have played with everyone from Fanny Brice (my grandfather) to Benny Goodman (my mother) to Steve Miller (myself). I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston , MA from 1975-1979 and left (5 weeks short of my degree) to perform in a rock band who toured for 5 years in the US and Canada. For beginning and intermediate students, I like to assign short pieces from method books such as Student Instrumental Course and Rubank. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. My outlook on musical training begins with an exceptional foundation of fundamental skills. I stress the importance of air and finger efficiency, as well as an excellent ear. Developing those skills early in musical development predisposes a student to succeed. In 2005 she was awarded 3rd prize of the concerto competition as well as a substitute position with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra where she had the opportunity to play many of the greatest orchestral masterpieces under world-renowned conductors. Shortly after graduating she moved to the city of Cincinnati OH, where she studied privately with the principal flute of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Randolph Bowman.
