I love teaching so I want my students to have the same love for learning. I convey this to the student by only giving the student what they can handle. I keep it challenging but also fun. I do this by letting the student choose their own music. I always add something fun into each lesson which keeps each student interested. I teach out of many books that give the student knowledge and confidence to play. Read More

I start my beginning students off with learning to read music notation simply from a rudiment sheet and moving into a cd play a long book with basic drum rhythms and song structure. For intermediate to advance students, I typically start with Stick Control for the snare drummer by George Stone. For basic drum set we start with "The Rhythm Book" covering all drum set styles. If the student is interested in a specific genre and style of playing, we tend to travel down that road of goals they have set for themselves. Read More

For beginning students (regardless of age instrument) I try to simplify the approach and work on a set of warm ups/exercises coupled with a performance piece or song that they can feel good about and lots of fun listening assignments. From there I have a few options of instruction methods that I tailor to the individual student. More intermediate/advanced students will not escape from some of the basics (metronome, scales, rudiments etc.) but will be met with many more choices of performance material based more on their individual goals. I have been playing drums for 18 years. In that time, I've learned a lot that I would like to pass on. I was in my high school marching band, I've taken lessons on jazz drumming and the Moller method, I've taken various musical, engineering, and production classes in college. I've done a great deal of independent study, and I am always looking for new ways to improve my skills and techniques. Read More

I strive to provide students with the tools needed to master musical skills. I also strive to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient. It is very rewarding to see a student of mine excel in their musical endeavors. Every student may learn at their own pace but I build them all up so that the end result is the same: musical mastery. I strongly believe that repetition and practice is the key to great success and i use that belief to make sure that the material is learned as well as retained. Read More

It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
