This is done while simultaneously building a strong foundation of technique, posture, and musicality in all of my students, regardless of their age or experience level. I was the principal drum instructor to students ranging in age from 6 to 35 at the Avon School of Music, a non-profit organization whose goal is to inspire local youth to fall in love with playing music. For beginning students, I like to start with the basic fundamentals of holding the drum sticks properly and how to set up the drum set so its comfortable for the student. Every body type is different and its important to start with that. Then we would move on to learning the basics of different styles and then move on to reading music from method books.
